Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
Live Scan Fingerprinting - ACC Live Scan ID
1. What is Live Scan Fingerprinting?
Live Scan is a secure, electronic fingerprinting process used for background checks required by employers, licensing agencies, government organizations, and other authorized entities.
Live Scan fingerprinting is commonly required for employment, professional licensing, volunteer positions, healthcare, education, security-related occupations, and certain permit applications.
Important: Please bring your completed Request for Live Scan Service form provided by the employer, agency, or organization requesting your fingerprints. This form contains the information necessary to submit your fingerprints to the appropriate agency.
2. I Recently Completed a Live Scan. Why Do I Need Another One?
Each Live Scan submission is generally associated with a specific employer, licensing authority, or requesting agency.
For example, if you completed a Live Scan yesterday for one professional license but are applying for a different license today, you may be required to complete a new Live Scan.
ACC Live Scan ID does not retain your fingerprint images for future submissions. Each new request is processed separately according to the requirements of the requesting agency.
3. Will I Receive a Copy of My Background Check Results?
Generally, no. Background check results are sent directly to the authorized agency or organization that requested your Live Scan. ACC Live Scan ID does not receive or provide copies of those results.
However, if you would like to review your own California criminal history record, you may request a California Department of Justice (DOJ) Record Review.
This process allows you to obtain a copy of your eligible California criminal history information and, if necessary, challenge information you believe is inaccurate or incomplete.
4. How Long Does Live Scan Fingerprinting Take, and When Will My Employer Receive the Results?
The fingerprinting process at ACC Live Scan ID typically takes just 5–10 minutes, once we have your completed request form and valid identification.
During your visit, we enter the required information, electronically capture your fingerprints, and securely transmit your submission to the California Department of Justice (DOJ).
Background Check Processing Times:
Many routine submissions are processed within approximately 48–72 hours, although processing times vary and are not guaranteed.
Applications requiring additional review, manual fingerprint comparisons, criminal history evaluation, or processing by other agencies may take longer.
Please remember that fingerprinting appointment time and background check processing time are separate. ACC Live Scan ID performs the fingerprint submission but does not control DOJ or FBI processing times.
5. How Can I Check the Status of My Live Scan Background Check?
You can check the processing status of your California Live Scan submission through the California Department of Justice's online Applicant Background Check Status service.
To check your status, you will need:
-
Your ATI (Applicant Transaction Identifier) Number, found on your completed Live Scan request form or receipt.
-
Your date of birth.

Please Note: The DOJ status service provides information about the processing of your fingerprint submission. It does not indicate whether you have been approved for employment, licensing, or another position. Those decisions are made by the requesting agency or organization.
